A Season of Loving Kindness

My family and I – sending you loads of holiday love.

Hey there.

Earlier this year I set myself a challenge to meditate every day for 100 days. After the challenge, I (mostly) kept the habit up. Using the ‘Calm’ app (it’s free) I do a guided meditation most days of the week. My most favourite of these is called “Loving Kindness” and it’s about being more loving and kind to YOURSELF as well as others. Sometimes we can be downright horrible to ourselves, and this one really reminds me that I am enough, that I am worthy of love and care, and that I should be as nice to MYSELF as I am to others.  In this loving kindness meditation, there’s a mantra which goes like this:

May I be happy.
May I be safe.
May I be healthy.
May I be at peace.

And those four short sentences say SO MUCH with so few words. Happiness, safety, health and peace – all things we need personally and the world needs at large. Beyond those things, what else do we really need? I also love how all four of these can be self defined – happiness means different things to different people, as does safety, health and peace. In other words, YOU DO YOU.

Holiday seasons are often a source of joy, love, happiness and silliness… but for some they are a source of sorrow, loneliness, loss and frankly, exhaustion. Most of us are going to feel some combination of those emotions over the coming weeks.

This holiday season, I’d like to personally thank you for being a part of my life. For reading or listening to what I’ve written, for sending me emails filled with gratitude and encouragement, for being honest and above all else for choosing to spend some of your time with me this year (even if you’ve never been in touch one to one, you’re still reading and listening). You should know, I take none of it for granted, and every day I am grateful to get to do this. My life is filled with the blessings of total strangers the world over… can there be any more reason to be filled with joy than that?
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This season – as in ALL the seasons of your life,

May you be happy.
May you be safe.
May you be healthy.
May you be at peace.

With love and rainbow sprinkles,

Michelle
